How would you describe the music on your album?
That's always a tough question. I tend to use elements of jazz, pop, and some new age in my songs. A lot depends on the song your talking about but the short answer would be jazz-fusion and pop-instrumental with piano lead.....I guess that's not such a short answer. How about pop-instrumentals.

Is that your eye on the album cover?
Yeah. I had it taken when I was visiting Seattle at a place called Eyescapes.

Where can fans buy the cd?
Amazon.com sells my album. It's also availabe for download at iTunes.

Are you going to put out another album?
I'd like to but it's going to take a while. Right now I'm concentrating on establishing a decent career track for myself. Maybe in a few years I'll be ready for a new album. One thing I've been thinking about is posting new songs on my web site for people to check out.

Who are some of your musical influences?
I should start with Jean-Luc Ponty. I've been listening to him since I was really young and he had a big effect on my music. After him it's just a big mix of pop, rock and jazz musicians like Vince Guaraldi, Sting, The Police, Van Halen, Steely Dan, Sade, U2, Miles Davis, New Order, Billy Idol, Level 42, Andreas Vollenweider, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Vangelis, Dave Matthews Band, Pat Metheny, Steve Miller Band, etc.

What's your favorite track from In Focus?
That's another tough question. I would probably say Reflections of Midnight. I love the mixture of the crickets, a cool jazzy groove and the lead piano melodies. A close second would be Mercury. I love the song structure there. It's simple but effective. Pete's drumming is very cool there too.

What kind of piano do you play on the album?
It's sampled from a Fazioli grand piano. I played that through a Kurzweil K2500 rack sampler and a Korg controller keyboard. Fazioli's are made in Italy and one of the premier pianos in the world. Kind of like the Ferrari of pianos.

Where are the metacarpal bones found?
The hand. Is this Jeopardy?

What other musicians worked with you on the album?
Pete Abdou played drums. I played the rest of the tracks through different keyboards and Mark Dailey(the studio engineer)helped put it all together.

What's your favorite Seinfeld episode?
Probably the Soup Nazi.

How's your world tour going?
It's kind of stuck in Boston at this point.

How can people get in touch with you?
Email is probably the easiest way. robert@robertlaplante.com
